Elected Texas English professor National Teacher of the Year

Lubbock, Texas (AP) - An English teacher in Texas, working with students in poverty and trauma, his immigration to the United States on Monday context was in 2015 secondary school with the name of the National Teacher of the Year in the year.

Shanna Yellow Peeples was for the honor of being the chosen, the Council of Chief State School Services. It is the first professor of Texas to win the award since 1957.

Peeples works in Palo Duro High, where about 85 percent of students live below the poverty line and where more children than any other high school in the district of 31,000 students registered refugee.

President Barack Obama will be recognized during a ceremony at the White House on Wednesday.
