The United States is composed of an amazing variety of unique landscapes, climates and cultures. Needless to say that the regional economy are as great a diversity. An industry is a major economic driver in one State may not be nearly nonexistent a few states away. So, how can you know which jobs are best suited for your home?

One possibility is to use a measure of localization of said ratio is a measure of the concentration of use. It's by the proportion of the workforce that. For a state in a particular occupation and the comparison of the percentage of domestic workers in the profession

In other words, SQ Question: "What is the percentage of workers in Texas are petroleum engineers", and then asked: "What percentage of American workers are petroleum engineers" and compare the two answers?.

An LQ of 1.0 means that the profession so focused on the state, as it is at the national level. The higher the LQ, is the unique work in this state. Returning to the previous example, the LQ of Petroleum Engineers in Texas 6.39, indicating that the petroleum engineering jobs more than six times more common in Texas than they in the country as a whole.

The sectors which occupations are more concentrated in one sector are usually a good indicator of what drives the economy in this region. Again, this light to shed on the career opportunities that can not in other regions.
