You fashion coccyx with long hours and maximum effort in vain. Maybe it's the root of the problem. If you work hard in solitude, you probably forgotten. To achieve your true purpose of increasing the organization and get a raise, you need to do a good job, and the people know that you need to have done. Here are five things you can do to help your career.

Increasing transparency. Visibility is key to the kind of person, promotions, raises and access to opportunities, according to Jeffrey Pfeffer, professor at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. As simple as it may seem, it is often difficult to put into practice. Many people think of their own success fanfare. In fact, this is to take credit where credit is due.

Also good managers struggling to keep the individual performance of the team. Not that they do not want to know - is the lack of time due to a demanding workload, crisis management and conflict of priorities. Make it easy for your boss, to you, to keep an eye by an e-mail update weekly or monthly update. State scored the goal measurable results, and always try how it will benefit the bottom line to bind their services with the goals of the organization and what it.

It remains to be seen. Long working hours and arrive early will not gain advantages especially when we do not know. If you have to work overtime, choosing a time of day your manager is around. For example, if your manager is an early riser, plan to arrive early in the day. You can even go through the office of its rapid and welcome.

A clearly visible project is another means to gain access. Look for ways to get to a mission that has the potential to contribute as the visibility of the work on a new product or service, the redesign of a process that even sponsored the company or to a community service project of the company.

To be heard. The next time you attend a meeting or event and will be prompted to enter, make sure you need a solid base. Do not include your name and title. Go one step further and add some to be proud of the achievements and includes a mini-certificate. For example: "My name is Jane Doe and I'm in the department Sales Support My team told me I'm the one who makes your life easier.".

If you have difficulty speaking or distribute their services, enlist the help of peers and colleagues. His colleagues they know and how they work. Ask if they would be willing to help discuss their strengths. Alternative for this race is a wise decision that will not go unnoticed.

Start of things. As of today, tracking their progress with a simple grid. Label three columns: the task / goal, actions and results.

Group / goal is the project or assignment to you, or if you added proactively performed. "Share for our monthly newsletter with the employees Gather information and products." For example,

The shares of the column identifies the steps or things that you do for your task or goal. Here is an example of how to summarize actions:
  • Determine articles, contests, news content
  • Request Info divisions required
  • Edit, format and gain approval
  • Distribute the intranet and distribute copies to the Executive
The third column lists, with the results of their actions. For example, "press releases and corporate events to the community on a monthly basis to build 2,500 employees at four locations." Whenever possible, integrate quantitative results.

Pay organization. If you have a performance evaluation on the horizon, can your manager requested to provide a list of projects that have worked submit or fill out a form, their services are to be described. Gather information and try to remember what you do not have good records in the course of the year, time consuming when you were done. You can even forget that you had some success this year.

Use this simple system regularly to communicate their benefits if you register with your manager, preparing your performance review and update your resume.

Why are not made to work for yourself

yeah man employees working in ...
Shutterstock

I remember the day like it was yesterday. It was June 2012 and I had with my boss that I tell leaving work . I do not have to go to another company. I was not in my retirement. I wanted to start my own business.

The feeling was like no other I have ever felt. It was a combination of relief, as mixed with an elephant on the chest, with great enthusiasm. I was in a morally committed work and thought a lot to leave. I wanted to work for myself for years and have now had the opportunity. The company began nearly three years ago my wife was the point where I could do the step to help run it.

I remember the moment when I decided to pull the trigger and shoot me in my office working. I asked for job after job without attractive offers. My wife said, "If someone give you a chance, maybe it's time to give." That was all it took to convince me to take the plunge and I have not looked back.

I am not alone, because there are about 10 million people in the US independent While life to be independent, start your own business as an entrepreneur or what enviable and sometimes want to be impressive, is whatever you call it is not for everyone.

The only thing not to say

I hate to be independent . There are benefits that I love my career in the cell can not touch. If I take a month in the area, I have this year, I am not sure. If I take a three-hour lunch, so I my son, how possible to eat for her birthday. These are things that I would not give for nothing.

However, there is a point that many of them, they dream to jump completely overlooked but excellent.

It's all up to you!

I know it can be hard, your mind around, wrap that, but it's all up to you! Do not believe me? Take a look at some of the things that you are responsible for when you go out for himself in the industry:
  • Bringing in business
  • Coverage of health care
  • Professional Growth and Development
  • Billing and Accounting
  • The hiring and firing of all potential employees
That the list is only the surface and not things like rent and loss of benefits such as paid leave or (k) 401, from top to bottom.

I knew in my head at least, they are the realities that before they would face the jump, but it's completely different when you see it play in your life. So I asked him what the hell I've done many times, since they do not sometimes take the plunge, the obligation seems worth it.

The late night infomercials lie

If you watch TV late at night, you will notice some similarities. One such problem is the abundance that can be seen with your own business.

They say that you only work a few hours a week.

They tell you jet-set Mai Tais and drink every weekend.

They say that everything that can be automated so no need to. Get things for you

The life of a single human being in essence they idealize, while in and out lies. If you run your own business was so easy, everyone would do it, and everything would rich. What they leave out the blood, sweat and tears it takes to run a business. They neglect the fact that thanks to its clients and any semblance of balance between work life is a challenge to maintain.

This is not a solution to be unhappy at work

When I to other people who are looking to finally speak the switch to the independence, I hear a common theme. They are satisfied with their work. If you are not satisfied with their role, they do not like your boss or they feel like they are everywhere to grow in society for them. These are all understandable circumstances and we can all on one level.

However, his job announced in self-employment is not the answer to the accident at work. It may be an understandable temptation when you think seriously about the consequences of such a decision. You can be happy with your current situation, but you should ask yourself if you are willing to take on all things that your employer filed for now.

Instead of jumping, because you are not happy at work, looking for ways that you can develop. Maybe it means going to another company. Maybe this means the use of training opportunities your employer offers. Maybe you just need a conversation with your boss to have and on the same page. These are all options that could improve their situation without risks and dramatic change work for you. If after looking at other options for your everyday work, but the company itching, consider starting a side gig. If it is removed, it may be a less risky option offer, but in self-employment as rewarding.

If you are planning to jump into self-employment, have someone who has gone the way before and thought long and hard about your decision, because it is not very well be the right choice for you.

To celebrate 5 Trends in the workplace

By Alison Green

If you can through their daily work or find a job or if you are toiling with a difficult boss or co-workers handling easy to forget to be grateful to work. There are significant changes in the workplace US workers and a real benefit for most people, not a decade ago.

Here are five positive developments. The workplace in recent years and the development of life of many people who have changed for the better

1. telework continue to grow. It was not so long ago, as a company, telework have allowed employees were a rarity. This has changed in the last decade in the last few years in particular, and. Thirty million Americans now work from home at least once a week, and Telework Research Network expects that number to increase dramatically in the coming years.

Taking into account all employee benefits, the offers telecommuting - no movement, save gas money, the possibility of working from home while you wait for the cable type - it is not surprising that a survey by the Society for Human Resource Management found a greater increase in the number of companies planning to offer on the rise for other benefits that teleworking.

00 but clock as workers each have combine new ways to work commitments and private life: 2. Flex time increases so that if you had an office job, you expect the same amount of hours as can each operate. 9: 00-17 increasingly tries, flexible working hours began increasingly accepted and even rooted in the American workplace.

Flexible working hours make it easier for workers to pick the kids up from school or daycare, attend classes, manage medical appointments or even to avoid peak hours. And employers have found that win a flexible schedule helps to keep officers, who always offers looking for flexibility in the workplace.

3. We are witnessing a move towards more paid leave illness. If you ever have jobs that paid sick days, you can take for granted. But in fact, no federal law requiring employers to pay offer sick leave, and some employers are not available. However, the picture on this change. We are experiencing a growing recognition that sick pay is good for workers and employers because they discouraged employees to come to work when they infect sick and others and improves the productivity and morale.

Connecticut, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego, the District of Columbia and a growing number of other jurisdictions have laws require in recent years paid sick days have passed, and dozens of states and cities are considered as paid sick leave suggestions on the most recent legislative session , President Barack Obama came to sick leave in his State of the Union address earlier this year to take.

4. The wage gap between men and women is declining. In general, men earn more than women for the same work. But things change, and saw how the latest generation play the workforce are some pretty intriguing clues as to what might come. A Pew Research analysis of census data showed that the women of the millennium - are better educated than their male counterparts - now earn 93 cents for every dollar men earn.

It is still an unacceptable differences, but it is much better than the average for all age groups, the wage gap is 84 cents for every dollar. This narrowing of the gap is a good omen for what is to come.

5. Options for non-traditional profession to take. The Internet has made it possible to create a large number of people their independent businesses or secondary career would not be in the past have been impossible.

Leaving full-time traditional strike on their own still a risky move, but there is no doubt that the technology and the field more accessible game, the internet offers a heck of a lot easier than before. As a result, millions of workers on strike on their own and shape their own careers possible with much more autonomy than before.

In the United States in the last two months of the year, usually to be a beautiful respite from the usual work activity nose-to-the-grindstone. We gather with family and friends to different religious and secular holidays (Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year, etc.) to celebrate during the parades, parties, dinners and other events. Often exchanged greetings with the people in our personal and professional networks - perhaps the only contact we have with some of them every year.

Reach your network to see if they have a better understanding of the specific patterns - making it, and when they know for employers, a certain employers look for new employees, of openings with the employer or another employer / how.

AOL Jobs player David is looking for work and getting a little frustrated with the application process. He asks:

This is exactly what companies want to hear? I answered an ad yesterday in which I had to write a haiku and also tell you three things I take with me to a desert island.

That seems fair
if the work of poets

(Hmm, maybe I should of.) David, it sounds ridiculous, and we can add to the long list of application and interview questions for stupid and unnecessary fears. It is a pity that so few HR managers have training in the process of finding candidates. So, instead, rely on your personality reactions made visceral and absurd questions of another person. Haiku, deserted islands, where do you see yourself in five years: None of this is important to us! The important thing is: If the candidate has the necessary skills to work? As a candidate, you have no choice but to play the game; sounds like what the employer is looking for people who are creative and imaginative. Also be sure to note in your cover letter your most important experiences: where previous work has shown that they meet the required tasks. Use as many lines and syllables you need.

Jessica said:

I have just discovered that I, I asked for a new job !! I'm so excited. But I have to say that my current job I am. My boss is very good, so I feel a little nervous. What is the best way to handle this?

Congratulations, Jessica, that's great! Hmm, I know this guy David who want to recommend the old house, especially if they need sonnets and rhymes. Certainly it can be difficult to announce that you are leaving a job in which you have been treated well. "Take This Job and Shove It!" simply do not apply. And who knows, your path may cross with his former employers again, so it's best to keep everything up-and-up. (Actually, that part of being a decent human being.)

The time is to be considered a key element: Are you able to more than two weeks notice to terminate ongoing projects and training a replacement? (But try him a break between two jobs, which can be very useful to decompress, to enter.) You can even say that you would be willing to answer some questions after the change. Almost at the same time to tell the boss: Ask to meet in person and just be honest and straight: She loved the work and the people, and has learned many things, but this is an excellent opportunity to advance your career. The head may initially be surprised or bad, but believe me, they'll get over it. And do not hurt if they do not want 2 weeks and its all for your help: Life is going to happen often, so let's try, but necessity. At this point, go for ice cream; You deserve it!

If you have a problem working for Jack? Write it in the comments below (the best answers to questions this week are also welcome!) Or Tweet AOLJobs #AskJack with the hashtag.
